Firm Owner, Studio Manager, Commissioning Authority and Senior Engineer
“We have a really great team.” As Founder and Owner of Metro CD Engineering, Michael understands the importance of relationships. When he founded the company in 2004, he was a one-man shop. His is the story of working from the bottom up.
Michael has over 24 years of designing electrical systems for energy distribution, lighting, fire alarms, stand-by emergency power, and technological structures. He has also been involved on 55+ LEED projects, 20+ of which he served as a Commissioning Authority.
At Metro CD Engineering, Michael wears multiple hats. He is the firm's Studio Manager and he oversees every engineering project. It is of utmost importance for him to work closely with both his staff and clients. He takes great pride in the efforts of Metro CD's team.
All of his staff agrees on one thing: Michael cares. He puts the same dedication into training his employees as he does to the completion of an entire green building. Whether a project is $10,000 or $80 million dollars, he adheres to the same principle—“Do it the right way."
Michael was one of the pioneering LEED APs (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional) in Central Ohio. He is the Secretary of the USGBC (United States Green Building Council) Central Ohio Chapter and is also active in several other green organizations in Central Ohio including TechColumbus, Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the City of Columbus's Mayor's Green Team.
Mr. Chow was the past Education
chairman for the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America
(IESNA) Central Ohio Chapter.
He is never too busy to give back to communities. He is proud to serve on the Engineering Advisory Board and Columbus Alumni Club of his alma mater, Ohio Northern University (ONU).
Michael received the Ohio Northern University 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award. The Distinguished Alumni Awards are based on outstanding service to the objectives of the Alumni Association of Ohio Northern University, service with distinction in the nominee’s chosen profession and tangible expression of loyalty to ONU.
Mr. Chow has also received the Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine and the 2009 Columbus Business First 40 Under Forty awards.
Michael has authored many publications and is on the Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine Editorial Advisory Board.
Mr. Chow is also a frequent guest speaker and was the keynote speaker at the 2011 Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine Career Smart conference.
